Annual General Meeting
Please be advised that the members of the Board of Directors has established the evening of Wednesday September 15th at 7:00 PM for the Annual General Meeting. If you require additional information please call Inna at ext 234 for details.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On March 25th 2010 the Minster of Finance, Dwight Duncan, presented the 2010 Budget. It was noted that there is a deficit and that the Government was presenting a number of cost control measures. We are still seeking clarity as to the direct impact on New Visions Toronto of those cost control measures.
In addition, approximately five years ago the Provincial Government announced a four year funding commitment, which would result in Developmental Service Agencies receiving an annual base budget increase of approximately 1.6 to 2.0 % annually. The year 2010/11 was supposed to be the fourth and final year of that commitment. However, we have received confirmation that the Government will not be honouring that commitment and there will be zero increase to our base budget this year.
As we review the impact of the Government of Ontario's financial decisions we will make every effort to advise people of any necessary actions that the Board of Directors and all employees may be required to implement.
Thank you, Don Walker - Executive Director

2009 Scotia Bank Walk/Run Event
Once again we had a wonderful time participating in the 5K Walk/Run. Although the day started with some light showers, by the time the "Thrill Seekers" are gathered there was no rain. The new course route this year allowed for some new sights to be seen and our pace up Bay Street to the finish line picked up with the excitment of the event and the cheering crowds.
We would like to thank all the participants, we had over 50 people representing New Visions Toronto! Also, a big Thanks to the team Captains Katherine and Philippa - well done Ladies!
Once the event was finished we made our way back to The Espalande area to enjoy the cooking of Susan and Sandy, who had a great lunch ready for everyone. Thanks to Susan and Sandy for their efforts to feed a big hungry group.
If you were unable to join us this year we hope you will consider it next year. More pictures will be posted soon and do keep your eyes open for photo evidence of our NVT cheerleader! See below.

Annual General Meeting
On September 16, 2009 New Visions Toronto held it's Annual General Meeting. After the meeting a parent, Christy Barber, requested that the following letter, she wrote, be posted on the New Visions Toronto website.
Family Attendance at New Visions Annual Meeting Embarassing
Once a year, we are invited to a meeting of the various stakeholders in the community residential programs which benefit members of our families: residents, family members, staff, Board members, and Ministry representatives. There are items of business,
which are required of charitable organization funded by the provincial government. They should be of interest to us all: highlights of the operations over the year at New Visions ; how they have managed the funds with which they have been entrusted to support 51 individuals; and who are the community members, including four parents, who make a large volunteer commitment as members of the Board of Directors, ensuring policies are adhered to, and developing and maintaining financial resources.
On Wednesday September 16th, the Annual General Meeting was held at the New Hibret Community Room. Our daughter Nancy accompanied Bill and I to a gathering that we would not miss, barring an emergency. We were greeted with welcoming hospitality and delicious treats. Accessible New Visions staff and directors were also available to answer our questions. We enjoyed reconnecting with the families in attendance, at which only seven families were represented. In view of the quality experience our family members have, as residents receiving support from New Visions, I encourage you to make sure that attendance at the AGM is a priority. Each of us finds ways to recognize and reinforce the New Visions community, but we need to have a stronger family presence and voice at this important event. Please offer your suggestions of how the Annual General Meeting could be structured/scheduled to ensure your participation. Thanks. Christy Barber barber72@sympatico.ca 416 489-2384

What an opportunity!
Recently, the capital gains tax was eliminated on direct donations of securities to a registered charity. This means that no capital gains tax is owning on such contibutions-in-kind and ones gets a reduction in income taxes of 46% of the market value of the securities donation itself ( assuming the highest matginal tax rate). This is a double incentive to assist New Visions Toronto and the people we support. If you would like to donate securities in kind, please contact Don Walker at 416-868 1493 ext 224 of via e-mail dwalker@newvisionstoronto.com. The Charitable Registration number for New Visions Toronto is 11905-6901-RR0001
